IPv6 for VPN Pink: updates for iOS and Mac Catalyst
Our new iOS and Mac Catalyst releases accompany expanded IPv6 support across VPN Pink’s servers. Here is what changes for your connection and how WireGuard and IPsec/IKEv2 fit in.
IPv4 and IPv6 through the VPN
Websites and networks use both IPv4 and IPv6. VPN Pink’s updated infrastructure can carry both address families through a correctly configured VPN tunnel. The app must request and apply the current configuration; an older saved profile may still contain only IPv4.
The connection to the VPN server and the traffic inside the VPN are separate things. A tunnel can carry IPv4 and IPv6 even when the app connects to the server over IPv4. Compatible apps can also use an IPv6 server endpoint where the network allows it.
WireGuard and IPsec/IKEv2
We have prepared IPv6 routing, forwarding and Internet access for WireGuard and IPsec/IKEv2. These protocols protect the connection between your device and the VPN server with encryption. Use the protocol options available in your version of the app.
IPv6 itself is not an encryption feature. Secure VPN use depends on the protocol and correct handling of both address families. Continue to use HTTPS websites and keep your device and app updated; a VPN does not replace those protections.
Available locations
The IPv6 rollout covers Austria, Germany, Spain and USA / Philadelphia. Available connection options depend on your app version, the selected protocol and the network you are using.
How to get the update
- Install the latest available VPN Pink update for iOS/iPadOS or Mac Catalyst.
- Refresh the server list and reconnect so the app can retrieve the current configuration.
- Choose a supported location. If the connection does not work as expected, contact support with your customer ID, device, app version, location and protocol. Never send passwords or private keys.
Free download, paid VPN access
Downloading VPN Pink and creating an account are free. Using the VPN service requires a paid plan. A free download does not activate free VPN access.
